This 45-minute train journey gives a guided 9km (5 ½ mile) tour out across a working environment, a cutaway area of preserved peatlands showing 12,000 years of history, heritage and archaeology.

Enjoy a lovely Boat Cruise along the Shannon to Clonmacnoise
Clonmacnoise Clonmacnoise
We will stop at Clonmacnoise which was built in 545 by Saint Ciarán at the point where the major east-west land route through the bogs of central Ireland along the Eiscir Riada, an esker or moraine left by the receding glaciers of the last ice age crossed the River Shannon. Saint Ciarán had been educated by Saint Diarmuid of Clonard and Saint Finian.

Shortly after his arrival, Ciarán met Diarmait mac Cerbaill who helped him build the first church — a small wooden structure and the first of many small churches to be clustered on the site. Diarmuid was to claim the title of the first Christian High King of Ireland. Return by coach to the Tullamore Court Hotel

National Stud HorseNational Stud & Japanese Gardens 12th June

09:15 Tour starts at Tullamore Court

16:30 Arrive in Tullamore (aprox)

We will start our tour with a stop at the Kildare Retail Outlet this will be followed by lunch in Newbridge and a visit to the Newbridge Silverware museum.

After lunch we depart to the Irish National Stud - Home to some of Ireland's finest thoroughbreds. In 1945 the Irish National Stud was formed with the primary aim to promote the interest of the bloodstock industry by providing the services of the high-class stallions on the farm. The stud consists of 958 acres of land and there are 288 boxes on the farm for mares, foals and stallions. This visit lasts for 50 minutes.

Following the visit to the stud you will enter the Japanese Garden for a self-guided tour. The Gardens are acclaimed as the finest Japanese Gardens in Europe. The significance of the Japanese Gardens is artistic and horticultural, but also philosophical, religious and historical.

There is no doubt that these Japanese Gardens are on a very short list of most loved gardens in Ireland, and the tremendous appreciation from almost 150,000 or so visitors each year tells its own story. We will return to Tullamore to arrive at 16:40 aprox

See the the Tullamore page for activities in the region.
