Prostate Stones-Are They Serious Problems? Print E-mail

Prostatic calculi or stones are thought by a number of people in the medical community to be responsible for a certain percentage of the cases of chronic prostatitis. As hard as it is to completely get rid of an infection from the prostate, it is even harder to have the stones removed. It is estimated that about seventy five percent of men have prostate stones in their middle age. Molecular analysis has shown that the stones contain ingredients that are generally found in urine and not in prostatic secretions.

Prostate stones are not associated with cancer in any way but they are more of an annoyance.  Generally these stones are only diagnosed when they are causing pain to the patient. As to date, there is no specific treatment for prostate stones through medically prescribed drugs. The only solution to get rid of the stones is through surgery. If men who are over the age of forty, experience symptoms such as prostate pain or pain in the lower abdomen or groin area, they should opt for an examination with a doctor or health professional. In addition, it is advisable that men learn how to keep the prostate gland healthy by taking the necessary supplements that contain ingredients such as beta sitosterol, lycopene and vitamin E. These supplements help in sustaining a healthier prostate gland.
